Katie Holmes wants a tattoo

London, Dec 29 (IANS) Hollywood actress Katie Holmes reportedly wants to have a tattoo to show her love for superstar husband Tom Cruise.
The 30-year-old, who has three-year-old daughter Suri with Cruise, is desperate to get an inking to prove her devotion to him, but he is unsure whether to allow for the needle work, reports fametastic.co.uk.

“He’s desperately trying to talk her out of getting the tattoo,” said a source.

Holmes came up with the idea after seeing the etching her friend Victoria Beckham had to mark her 10th wedding anniversary with soccer ace David earlier this year.

Victoria had the Hebrew words for “Together, Forever, Eternally” inked on her wrist in honour of her husband and Holmes is determined to get a similar inscription.

Madonna buys horse ranch for 6 mn pounds!

London, Dec 29 (IANS) Pop diva Madonna has reportedly paid 6 million pounds for a horse ranch.

The singer splashed out the enormous sum for the estate, which includes 30 acres of land and is situated in the Hamptons area of New York State, reports contactmusic.com.

“Madonna is thrilled the ranch is now hers,” said a source.

Madonna bought the Wild Ocean Farm ranch from designer Calvin Klein’s ex-wife Kelly.

It is currently being used to train show horses, and Madonna was only allowed to buy the ranch on the understanding she kept it as a working equine centre.

The singer who is a keen horse-rider is also believed to be interested in a 1.5 million pounds adjoining plot of land and is making enquiries into buying it so she can build a mansion there.

Russell Crowe gets philanthropic on X-Mas

London, Dec 29 (IANS) Hollywood actor Russell Crowe was full of Christmas cheer during the festive season and he handed a homeless man a plush coat to help keep out the winter chill.
The “Gladiator” star was filming scenes for new movie “The Next Three Days” in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, earlier this month when he learned a popular down-and-out known as ‘Radio Man’ had travelled to the city to catch a glimpse of the shoot, reports imdb.com.
Crowe immediately showed his generous side and handed the vagrant a warm coat with a furry hood.
“Apparently, Radio Man loves Russell so much that he went all the way there just to stand outside the set,” he said.

Rihanna breaks silence about ex-boyfriend Chris

London, Nov 3 (IANS) Singer Rihanna has finally spoken out about the night her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown attacked her.
“This happened to me. It can happen to anyone,” contactmusic quoted Rihanna as saying.
The “Umbrella” singer who was left battered and bruised after Chris assaulted her in February at a pre-Grammy party admitted it was hard to come to terms with it because of the feelings she had for the rapper.
“He was definitely my first big love. So it was very difficult for me,” said Rihanna.

Bollywood influences Hollywood: Murdoch

Most American movies enthrall audience worldwide with their creative exuberance, but media baron Rupert Murdoch feels it is India's Hindi film industry Bollywood that influences Hollywood, both financially and creatively.

For Murdoch, whose business empire stretches from newspapers to television channels to filmed entertainment, among others, India is more welcoming of competition in the media industry.

"India, which far, far earlier in the economic development cycle, has been more welcoming of competition and so Bollywood has come to influence Hollywood, financially and creatively," media conglomerate News Corp Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rupert Murdoch has said.

Fox Filmed Entertainment from the News Corp is a leading entity in movie production and distribution. Further, the group's Twentieth Century Fox Film has churned out top grossing movies including the multi-Oscar winner Titanic.

There have been increasing collaborations between the Indian film industry and Hollywood in the recent times. Earlier this year, billionaire industrialist Anil Ambani announced a partnership with ace film maker Steven Spielberg for producing films, in a deal worth millions of dollars.

Applauding the diverse and growing media industry in India, Murdoch noted the great winners of this progress are
the people of India.

"A willingness to allow international companies into the domestic television market has prompted local companies to improve their production quality.

"... The great winners are the people of India, who have much pride in their global success and a choice of programmes unimaginable a decade ago," Murdoch said at the recent World Media Summit held in Beijing.

Hollywood's calling A.R. Rahman

MUMBAI, India — Hollywood is finally getting to know A.R. Rahman, the short, humble and deeply religious man who took two Oscars home to southern India for his work on "Slumdog Millionaire."
In the eight months since Slumdog's surprise Oscar sweep, Rahman has survived the rage of felicitation that hit him when he returned to India — even the prime minister offered his congratulations — and embarked on countless lunches with studio executives in L.A. eager to match him with that perfect new film.
In between, he's managed to score two movies, hatched plans with Dave Stewart of Eurythmics to start a band, and is putting together a new solo album.
The Oscars, Rahman said, "got me an identity in the West."
"There won't be any doubts looking at me: Who are you? What are you doing here?" he said by phone from Medina, Saudi Arabia. "I don't have to prove again I can do this and that, and rather can just be cool about my musical statement."
His latest composition is for "Couple's Retreat," a yoga-inflected romantic comedy written, produced by and starring Vince Vaughn, released Friday by Universal Studios.
He spent nearly three months working on "Couple's Retreat," first in London and then in L.A.
"L.A. helped me hide," Rahman said. "I can walk on the streets, which I can't do in India. I can go to a coffee shop and sit there. I have so much freedom, whereas in India I get mobbed."
In India, Rahman enjoys a fanatical pop-star fame that stretches from barefoot slum kids playing cricket to the richest matrons of Mumbai. He has won 18 Filmfare Awards, three MTV Awards, and six Tamil Nadu State Awards, among others. In 2000, he was conferred the highest civilian honor in India, the Padma Shri, for his contributions to the film industry.
But that somehow didn't translate. "Slumdog" did.
Now, Rahman said, he's not just getting work from Hollywood, he's getting good work — projects for which he can set his own artistic terms.
"Since the Oscars and all the appreciation, people come for what I am," he said.
The new album — for Interscope Records, which produced the blockbuster soundtrack to "Slumdog" — is still in its early stages, but Rahman said he hopes to bring together experienced artists like Lady GaGa and M.I.A. with "some really new talents."
"After 'Jai Ho' became number one in 17 countries, they were very excited and said, 'Why don't you do a whole album?'" Rahman said.
He keeps working on his pet project: A classical conservatory he opened two years ago in his hometown of Chennai, in southern India. About 130 students are learning the vanishing arts of the viola, violin and acoustic piano. Rahman said he's also teaching them Indian classical music and electronic composition — the same motley but fortuitous set of skills that holds together his own career.
The "Couple's Retreat" soundtrack veers from the South Indian Carnatic harmonies of "Undressing" to the hip-hop inflected "NaNa." Shyam Benegal, an award-winning Indian director — he also got the Padma Shri — who hired Rahman to make music for two of his films, says Rahman has created "a musical bridge."
"He has bridged the musical distance between the way the Western ear responds and the way the Indian ear responds," he said. "It's very difficult to say how."
The foundations of that bridge were laid when Rahman was a child. After his composer father died, Rahman took up playing the keyboard for movies in south India's burgeoning Tamil-language film industry. He was just 12.
"I had to work because we had the keyboards," he said. "My mother said, 'Why don't you learn them? It's such an advantage for you to have them.'"
"I was almost the breadwinner of the family," he added.
After studying under several masters of classical Indian music, he won a scholarship to the Trinity College of Music in London and took a degree in Western classical music. His break in India came when he was 23 and noted director Mani Ratnam asked him to score his film "Roja."
Since then he's worked on over 100 movies in India.
"His fees have gone up a lot," said director Benegal. "He may be the most expensive composer in India today working on films. That he is. But what he gives to you, even in financial terms, the recovery is almost instantaneous."
Still, Hollywood's remunerative embrace could price India's favorite son out of his home market.
"If he charged me Hollywood rates," Benegal said, "I wouldn't be able to pay."

Zombieland (2009) Review

Two men have found a way to survive a world overrun by zombies. Columbus is a big wuss – but when you're afraid of being eaten by zombies, fear can keep you alive. As they join forces with Wichita and Little Rock, who have also found unique ways to survive the zombie mayhem, they will have to determine which is worse: relying on each other or succumbing to the zombie

WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

An American wasteland overrun by undead monsters provides the ideal setting for outrageous comedy in Zombieland, the debut feature from writer/director Ruben Fleischer. Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg play two human survivors who employ contrasting approaches to staving off the pesky flesh-eaters. Eisenberg’s Columbus is a neurotic worry-wart with a distinct obsessive-compulsive streak and a nagging case of irritable bowel syndrome who survives in Zombieland by adhering to a strict set of rules. Harrelson’s Tallahassee, on the other hand, is a whiskey-swilling cowboy who has no apparent rules of any kind, only a vast arsenal of weapons and an insatiable craving for Twinkies.

After encountering each other on a deserted highway, the two opposites decide to join forces, if only to stave off the maddening solitude of Zombieland. But their numbers soon double when, during an abortive Twinkies expedition at an abandoned supermarket, they’re surprised to find a pair of enterprising young girls, Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin), hiding out in the stockroom. (All the characters are named after their hometowns, if you haven’t figured that out already.)

Though their relationship gets off to a rough start (the seemingly innocent girls rob the gullible boys not once, but twice), the unlikely quartet become fast friends, and together embark on the perilous journey out west — to an abandoned theme park thought to be the only zombie-free sanctuary left on the planet.

THE VERDICT

It may be tempting to compare Zombieland to Shaun of the Dead, thus far the most successful zombie-themed horror-comedy to date, but Fleischer’s film bears little resemblance to UK director Edgar Wright’s indie classic. At its core, Zombieland is really a road-trip comedy in the vein of Vacation, Dumb and Dumber or, well, Road Trip, in which our heroes travel cross-country on a quest, encountering various obstacles along the way. In this case, the obstacles happen to be ravenous, cannibalistic zombies.

And it works, thanks largely the charisma and chemistry of its lead actors and the irreverent wit of Fleischer, who proves that there are still plenty of laughs to be gleaned from the increasingly well-worn zombie oeuvre.

The real hero of Zombieland, however, is Bill Murray. Just when the film exhausts its momentum and starts to meander, the legendary star of Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day arrives unexpectedly on the scene, delivering what is bound to be the most talked-about surprise cameo since Will Ferrell showed up at the end of Wedding Crashers. The presence of Murray and his trademark acerbic, deadpan style injects Zombieland with a welcome jolt of energy, giving it just enough gas to carry us through to the closing credits. (FYI: This is hardly a spoiler — Murray’s cameo is listed on IMDB.)

PARTING SHOT

Zombieland isn’t concerned about messages or metaphors or stern warnings about the future in which society is headed; it just wants to make you laugh and have a good time. In that sense, it’s an unqualified success.

Penelope Cruz: Big Apple Beauty

Still situated in the Big Apple,  Penelope Cruz stepped out of her hotel in New York City on Saturday afternoon (October 10).

Looking lovely, the 35-year-old Spanish actress seemed to be in a bit of a hurry as she quickly walked past awaiting paparazzi while continuing along with her “Broken Embraces” promotions.

  Aside from “Broken Embraces,” Miss Cruz is gearing up for the upcoming release of another film, as the Rob Marshall directed movie “Nine” will be making its way into theaters on December 25th.

Speaking about the toll-taking filming, Marshall told press: “She [Penelope] does all this work with ropes--she was swinging on them and it was scary, and she had formed calluses and her hands were bleeding.  We had told her she should wear gloves, but she was like
: ‘No--I have to feel it.’”

He added: “There’s this huge sheath of pink satin that she slides down on.  When we finished the scene, she had disappeared behind the satin and was in tears.”

While the whole scenario sounds quite unpleasant, Penelope said that she “loved every second. I want to install ropes in my bedroom, so I don’t have to let go of it.”

Amy Winehouse Steps Out for “Strictly Come Dancing”

Following her return to the stage spotlight,  Amy Winehouse was spotted being escorted back to the Harley Street clinic in London on Saturday night (October 10).

The “Rehab” crooner was fresh off of a performing appearance on the BBC show “Strictly Come Dancing” - during which she provided backup vocals for her god-daughter, Dionne Bromfield.

During the show, Miss Bromfield gave a strong performance of her single “Mama Said,” while Amy received less-than stellar reviews calling her presence “uncertain” and “shaky”.

Aside from helping out her god-daughter, Miss Winehouse will be releasing her long-awaited third album next year.

Of the effort, Island co-president Darcus Beese told the Guardian newspaper, “I’ve heard a couple of song demos that absolutely floored me. Hopefully, we’ll have her album next year.”

Miley Cyrus Deletes Twitter Account

After months of mocking Miley Cyrus for Tweeting every thought that comes into her head, The Hollywood Gossip can claim victory against this self-serving young singer.

We never thought we'd see the day, but Cyrus actually deleted her twitter account last night, sharing one final thought:

FYI Liam doesn’t have a twttr & he wants ME 2 delete mine w/ gd reason.

Yes, Miley axed her Twitter page because Liam Hemsworth - CLEARLY her boyfriend at this point - asked her to. It reads as though Hemsworth was upset with the coverage he and Miley's relationship has received, a fact that Cyrus blames on the media.

Here's a crazy idea, Miles: instead of slapping all two million of your Twitter followers in the face, and blaming journalists for writing about the information you posted, perhaps you could have simply scaled back your Tweets.

Now, no one wins.

Fans can't follow one of their favorite stars; Cyrus can't get sympathy from her constant, whining messages; and we can't make fun of her for such desperate pleas for attention.

It's all very upsetting.

Lindsay Lohan Pregnant?!

Lindsay Lohan seems to have a lot of drama in her life lately and she might be in store for more - the 22-year-old actress is reportedly pregnant!

Apparently, after her split from Samantha Ronson, Lindsay slept with a few men - maybe trying to forget her breakup with Sam?

A source said, “I swear she’s carrying. She’s going through big emotional turmoil. She’s not sure if she’ll have it or go through with an abortion that she booked to have in the next few days.”

The insider added, “Saddest part is she has no idea who the father is. She must have slept with more than two dozen men in the past couple of months.”

Let’s hope she isn’t - this girl needs to get her head on straight before having a baby!
